Out with my classmates and teacher

Last Tuesday, I went to Marjan Supermarket which has a small restaurant with my colleagues Ahmed, Khaled, Hassan and Osama at the school and out teacher Mrs. Samira for a special Cinnabon and wonderful pizza.

First Hassan called me to make sure if I am coming to school or not, while I was driving my car and when I was entering the class Ahmed called me to ask if there's a class today. Everybody came to class except Fadia and Wafa and we took one hour to talk and answer some exercises. Next we decided to go to the restaurant and we argued which car we'll take because everybody has a car. So I rode in my teacher's car and the guys rode in Osama's car and when the teacher was driving she told me that she's been driving since 1977 ands she is still afraid of driving which needs a brave person. Then we entered the restaurant. It's a small area with four small tables but it looks very beautiful.

Later, me and Hassan preferred pieces of pizza and you can't imagine how Khaled was looking at Hassan when he suggested to buy a big size of pizza. The teacher chose Cinnabon with green tea, Ahmed and Osama chose Cinnabon with Foster Drink and Khaled took a Cinnabon and we talked, joked and laughed for two hours.

Shortly after that we went around the supermarket and showed to Osama how it's very expensive to have a family and a house. Finally, we finished this wonderful day and the teacher showed us the perfect way to get something you want from anyone as a gift. Then everybody went back to his home with a smiling face.

Writing letters

The pre-intermediate /PET preparation students were assigned the task of writing a letter to an editor of a newspaper saying why they wanted to win a competition for a weekend trip to the UK. Here is what some of the students wrote:

Dear Editor,

I would like to enter this competition.

I've been learning English for about seven years because I like learning this language. It helps a lot in life, for example; in work and in communicating with people.

I have visited a lot of countries like England, France, Germany and Italy, and if I win I will take my sister with me.

I want to win the weekend because I want to have fun and I'd like to stay at the hotel because they have got a nice breakfast and dinner and I can visit the famous northern market adn shop bargains.

At last, thank you for giving us a chance to practice our language.

Yours sincerely,
Esra Elsarraj

Dear Editor of the Times Magazine,

I have been learning English for five years, first of all my parents want me to learn English; thinking about my future they wanted me to have a third language. I can speak Arabic and Portuguese. English is an international language and beginning to study younger would help me to be more fluent.

I've visited some countries like Brazil, Italy, Tunisia and Spain with my family but if I win this weekend I'll take my dad with me.

I really want to win this weekend because I want to practise English in it's mother land.

Eman

Dear Editor,

I have been learning English for over six months and my language is better than before.

I am learning English to get a better job and improve my language, your organising a competition is helping me to learn English in a specific way, especially if I win I would like to visit other countries especially in Europe and take a friend with me for fun.

I hope to win the competition to visit Liverpool and make conversation with people who speak English very well.

Your faithfully,

Isam Ben Shaban

A Hero!

Two years ago I decided to take karate lessons to protect myself and my family. And that was a really good idea. I joined a karate club with my friends, but the problem was that I was a little bit short, but that does not mean that I am not a good player.

Anyway, one day while I was out shopping with my friend I saw a woman coming out of the bank. She looked rich because she was wearing nice clothes with a smart briefcase. I noticed a young man behind her. Suddenly he took her briefcase so fast and she started to scream. The man was running toward me so I stopped him and gave him some lessons! I took the briefcase that he had stolen from the lady and I returned it to the woman.

She was so happy. She told the police that I was a hero.

My most important day

I was thinking about the most important day in my life and suddenly I remembered that day which I chose my way when I decided to study computer engineering because I was so confused between engineering and medicine. My family told me that it was only me who had to make that choice because it's my life.

On that day I decided to be a computer engineer so I completed my requirement file (secondary certification, my marks, etc.) and I went to the engineering college to register. I found a crowd of students with a long queue of students and student's fathers who wanted to register in the same faculty. I stayed in this queue from 9:30am to 3:00pm. I know it's a long time but I never minded.

Now I have graduated and I have a job. Until now I think it's the most important day in my life.

I admire our planet

I admire many beautiful things made by God, but nature is the thing I admire most. I always think about it when I start drawing in my spare time. I usually imagine the sea and the sky's colours. How they change gradually at sunset. It's very nice. And also the fullmoon rising in a mountainous region, gives you a good chance to compare between the day view and the night view. It's amazing!

I admire the marine life that I always watch on TV. I wish I could scuba dive. It would be very nice to move and swim among the huge colorful fish and plants.

I admire the singing, coloured birds. I like them so much, I've a very beautiful singing bird in my house. It always wakes me up early.

Nature is the most valuable thing we've got on our planet. We have to keep our planet clean from anything that would pollute it.

The person who I admire . . .

In fact, I admire two people, Mom and Dad. Even if I write all the words about them, it will not be enough.

All right, I will talk about my mother. She is an absolutely great woman. I will never find a mother like my mom. She endured, everything just for her children, because she is a foreigner from Japan, a different country, different culture. Everything was different for her. I can't tell you how she suffered, and for how long. but now she is better. I say that not because she is my mother, no, but this is the truth. I wish that God will always help her because she deserves the best . She was thinking just to make her children happy, what more can I say. . . for me nobody is like my mom, and I learned many things from her. The best thing I learned from her is truth, faith, and that it is not good to compare ourselves to others, and the rich person is not the one who has the most, but is the one who needs the least. She says sometimes two people can look at the same thing and see it very differently, and it only takes a few seconds to open profound wounds in someone you love, and that it may take many years to heal those wounds.

Finally, I love my parents so much, and I thank you for giving me this chance to say even a little or my mother.

Who do I admire?

Everyone has one person, maybe more than one, who lives in his memory, heart, mind, thoughts, likes, the way of life, and life itself. They effect on it, perhaps even changing because of these people. Believe it or not, we don't choose them. We were born to love, respect, and admire them. The reasons of that are many, but sometimes we do not know exactly why we admire people.

About myself, I admire the Messenger Mohammed. He was an incredible person. I read a lot about him, his life and how he changed our lives with only kind, lovely and wise words. I also admire my mother and my father. They are the most wonderful and effective people in my life.

I admire everyone who has a special personality. Everyone who teaches me even a small thing. I also admire everyone who has a target in his life and tries hard to reach it. Now I wonder if someone will admire me. I hope so!

My five likes

These are the things that I like and enjoy doing.

One. Reading books that talk about real strange things that happen to normal people, changing their lives, and making it more interesting. I like these kinds of books, maybe because I hope these things would happen to me.

Two. Playing and playing forever, all kinds of playing. It doesn't matter if it is music, sports, games, and with children. Most people say there's a child inside of them, so I have one inside of me to .

Three. Meeting new friends, everyone has a special personality, and of course we are different, but I think the most important thing is how to communicate and make new friendships that last for a long time, and I try hard to do that and I like it.

Four. Cooking - my mother said that I had my grandmother's style in cooking. I like cooking, because I feel happy when all the family eats everything I cook.

Five. Painting is my special space. I go to paint to see an express my feelings, happiness, angry feelings, sadness maybe. Actually, I paint only for myself, and after I finish, I feel much better.

I like chatting with my children, because sometimes they ask me strange and funny questions.

I like singing birds and some plants in my house, because both are from nature.

I always like my wife to be a good mood, because if she's in a good mood, she'll cook very well.

I like the old cities in the old things from history, because it makes me imagine how the people were living at that time.

I like my car's papers to be kept updated, because I don't like to break the traffic laws.

Things I like

I like playing and watching football, because it's interesting, and it's a useful sport. It makes me meet new people and make new friends.

I like reading, it seems like the old Arabic saying is true, 'The book is the best friend', and so I read a lot to discover many things which I'm interested in. I read novels, newspapers, books, magazines etc.

I like traveling. Travel makes me learn about countries and their cultures, and it also makes me try different beings liked foods, ice skating etc., of course, it makes me meet new people, and learn new skills .

I like music. I like to hear most kinds of music. It gives me a wonderful feeling. By the way, I listen to English songs to improve my language skills .

I like to make friends. I believe that there are a lot of nice and good people. I know that it's not easy to get that one who's very close to my soul, but I have to try again and again. I also believe that friendship is the perfection of love. For example, recently, I met two nice ladies. One of them is my colleague at work, and the other one is my teacher. They have very good hearts, and they are very nice. In one word, they are amazing. I wish that I can be like their little brother.

Some examples of things I dislike

Actually, I dislike many things. I’ll give you examples:

I dislike the traffic in the street when I want to go some place.

I don’t like some food, but I like most food.

Last month I bought a t-shirt but when I washed it, it shrunk, so I dislike this kind of clothes.

I like all kinds of music except Hard Rock.

I like the summer season, but I dislike sweltering hot days.

5 things I dislike

1. War
I don’t like war at all. What do we get from war? Death, destroyed buildings. I wish all the people would stop making war and live in peace.

2. Lies
I hate every person who tells lies. This is a bad habit. Lies destroy trust and everything, and if you find someone telling lies that means you can’t depend on him for anything.

3. High places
I am afraid of high places so much, I sometimes see the nightmare that I am standing on a high building and I am so afraid that suddenly I wake up and thank Allah because it was just a dream.

4. Vegetables
In fact I don’t like vegetables, but the doctors always say you have to eat vegetables every day for good health.

5. Sickness
I don’t like being sick. Being sick makes me in a bad mood and I don’t feel well and have pain in all my body. The worst thing is that you have to stay in bed all day and take medicine. I really hate that.

What I dislike in this life

I’ll write about what I dislike in this life. So, I’ll separate it into what I dislike in people, sport and food.

In people I dislike cheating between friends because you must trust each one of them.

In sport I dislike the hate between players in the same sports game because they appear to love each other but in fact they hate each other.

And in food I dislike junk food because it’s not useful to our body.
